Gordon Z. House

Gordon Z. House, 90, of Valdosta, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2019, a Fellowship Home following a lengthy illness. He was born in Carrollton, GA on January 17, 1929 to the late Samuel Gordon House and Ruby Roberts House. Mr. House graduated high school in Carrollton, and after high school briefly worked at a mill before joining the United States Air Force. He served in the Air Force including in the Korean War and Vietnam, for over 20 years before he retired and settled in Valdosta in the early 60’s. He then went to work at VSU where he began in the VSU police department before he was promoted to Superintendent of Custodial Services. He retired again in the late 1980’s from VSU. He was very active in Lee Street Baptist Church serving and volunteering, and then at Crossroads Baptist Church when Lee Street Baptist Church and Azalea City became a new church. Mr. House served as a deacon at both Lee Street Baptist Church and Crossroads Baptist Church.
Mr. House is survived by his wife of 47 years Glennell Southall House, of Valdosta, his son and daughter in law, Phil and Patsy House, of Ocala, FL, his daughter and son in law Vicki and Jeff Orwig, of Canton, GA, his son and daughter in law Stan and Pam House, of Valdosta, his step children Kenny and Sherry Moore, of Madison, GA, and Gale Moore Schall, of Valdosta, his grandchildren Clayton (Katherine Linn) Orwig, Mollie (Tony) Luchetti, Chad (Kathy) House, Cam House, Megan (Anthony) Tovar, Katelyn House, Bo (Melanie) Moore, Summer (Trey) Rhodes, Kerry (Caleb) McFaddin, Robin Harris, Gina Fountain, Carly Moore, his fifteen great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Butch Moore, and son in law Brian Schall, and a brother Clifford House.
A graveside service for Mr. House will be held on Sunday, October 6, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Dr. Ken Alford officiating.
