Gloria Lilyea Shay, 69 years of age, of Valdosta, died peacefully Sunday, February 13, 2011 after a long struggle with Alzheimer's disease.
Gloria was the fourth of five children, born at home on the banks of Seneca Lake, New York, on October 17, 1941 to parents Louise and Roy Lilyea. She is predeceased by her parents and her brothers Carl and Roy.
Known to all as a gentle and joy-filled soul, she regularly put the needs of others before her own. She was an avid reader, an animal lover, and a cheerful conversationalist who rarely spoke an unkind word. She was a highly valued employee, having retired as an executive secretary from a prestigious New York law firm.
Gloria was a well-loved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother and friend. Her memory will be lovingly treasured by her daughters Karen (Landin) and Michele (Alzheimer), and son Steven. Survivors also include sisters Lois (Fisher), Sharon (Martin), former spouse Patrick, grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 16 at 10:30 A.M at the St. Joseph Chapel on the grounds of St. John's Parish in Valdosta. Her remains will be interred near her parents' grave at Sand Hill Cemetery near Geneva, New York, when the daffodils bloom this spring.
