Gloria L. Foster, 78 of Quitman, passed away at South Georgia Medical Center on June 11, 2012 after a brief illness. Born on October 6, 1933 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Lennis Asa & Helen Wheelan Donaldson, she had lived in Valdosta and the surrounding area for the past forty years.
Gloria loved to play the piano and was a member of the band in High School and later at Asbury College. While attending Asbury College in 1954 she met and married Fred Foster. Gloria received her teaching degree from Georgia Southern University and she taught school for eighteen years, finishing her career at Clyattville Elementary school. She and her husband moved around as Fred was assigned as pastor to many churches in the South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church. Gloria was extremely musically talented and used her gift of music playing the piano and assisting with the choirs in the churches where she served with her husband. She enjoyed being hostess whenever her husband Fred cooked food for various groups and social gatherings. Gloria loved her family and was especially devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved fellowship and good conversation with others. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Fred M. Foster of Quitman; daughter and son in law, Debbie and Jimmy Sublett of Quitman; grandchildren and their spouses, Terry & Jennifer Sublett of Lake Park, Kelly and Todd Shiver, Freddy and Kelsey Sublett all of Valdosta, Sean and Mandy Foster of Hahira, Travis and Julia Foster of Greensboro, NC; great grandchildren, Cameron Conley, Bailey Sublett, Kaleb Shiver; daughter in law and husband Pat and Buddy Newbern of Hahira; brothers in Law and sisters in law, numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Donald Lee Foster and a sister, Vergie Higdon.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, June 15, 2012 in the Chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with the Reverend Carl Howard, Reverend Marc Foster and Reverend Henry Bass officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens.
