Gloria Jean Jackson

Gloria Jean Jackson, 67, of Valdosta died suddenly on Friday, December 9, 2011, after a period of declining health. Born in Moultrie to the late Alvin & Dorothy Suggs, she moved with her family to Valdosta at an early age. She attended Valdosta High School and had an interest in many sports activities including basketball, softball and especially roller skating. Mrs. Jackson worked for nearly 20 years in the lunchroom of Pine Grove Elementary School before her health caused her to retire as the manager of the lunchroom. She also enjoyed old movies, keeping track of family and friends through email and on the computer. She had a great love for her family and especially her grandchildren and was very protective of them. Mrs. Jackson had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to exercise it for the benefit of others.

Survivors include her husband of 49 years, Charles Jackson, of Valdosta; two sons and a daughter in law, Matt & Evelyn Jackson and Ronnie Jackson, all of Valdosta; five grandchildren, Cpl. Garrett Jackson of Jacksonville, NC, Ashley Jackson, Laine Jackson, Katie Jackson, and Shayla Jackson, all of Valdosta. Also surviving are three sisters and a brother in law, Carolyn Linder of Cedar Hills, TN, Cherri & Everitt Goff of Ocala, FL, and Ann Wilson of Valdosta; three sisters in law and a brother in law, Anita Brown of Valdosta, Bobbie & Steve Baird of Thonotosassa, FL, and Vess Remel of Valdosta. She is preceded in death by her parents and her step father, Earnest Copeland.

Funeral services for Mrs. Jackson will be held at 4 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2011 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home. Rev. Bob Willis will officiate. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 until 8 p.m. Sunday evening, December 11, 2011.
