Gloria J. Peters Kent, 75, of Lake Park, GA died on Sunday, February, 4, 2018. She was born in Columbia, Alabama on July 18, 1942, and moved to Miami, Florida at 7 months of age where she lived until 1977 and then moved to Lake Park, GA. She was the daughter of the late Walter Bishop Killingsworth and Katheryn Ritchie. A graduate of Hialeah High School in Miami, she went on to work in the trucking industry for 17 years prior to moving to Lake Park. Gloria was very involved in her community serving with the Lake Park Homemakers and 4H Club and the local extension office serving on the Board for the 4H Club Camp for a number of years. She also served on the Home Economists Advisory Board, and as secretary of the Neighborhood Watch Program at Francis Lake Subdivision. Gloria worked closely with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department in the fingerprinting program both in the local elementary schools and at Moody AFB. She served on the Executive Board of Christian Women’s Club for several years along with serving on the American Legion Fair Planning committee. For the 12 years prior to her employment she was a quilter and a member of the Withlacoochee Quilters Guild when they first began. She was a member of Fellowship of Christian Believers Church. She was Homemaker of the Year for the State of Georgia in 1987 prior to her going to work for the state. Prior to her retirement, Gloria worked for the Department of Family & Children Services where she was employed as a Medicaid Eligibility Specialist.
Survivors are her husband Major USAF, (Ret.) William Benjamin “Benny” Kent, Jr., of Lake Park; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Pascal Lanselle of Saintines, France; step-daughter and son-in-lawn Wendy and Joey Newbern of Loganville, Georgia; step-son and daughter-in-law, LeRoy A. Kent and Trina Masunas-Kent of Homerville, Georgia; step-son, Richard A. Kent of Gainesville, FL; sister, Kathie A. Ritchie of Miami, FL; sister-in-law, Theresa Davidson; sister-in-law, Beverly (Jimmy) Amiot; twelve grandchildren, several nephews and nieces and numerous cousins.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Rollo Hendrickson and Rev. Richard Soper officiating.
