Gloria Dalton Sorenson

December 19, 1921 — August 19, 2016

Gloria received the Lords calling on August 19, 2016. She was at peace and with family. She was born in Valdosta, Georgia on December 19, 1921 and was the tenth child of Oscar Davis and Emma Mae Dalton. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Lt. Colonel John Maxwell Sorenson (U.S. Air Force). John and Gloria were married in 1942 when he was a pilot at Moody and she a student at Valdosta State - they were married for 62 years.
She is survived by her sister Dorothy Little Paine, four children and spouses Caro Lewis and Vernon Green, Bonnie Maxwell Sorenson, Sally Sue and Michael Christopher and Johann and Sherry Sorenson. She has three grandchildren Elkie Craven, Suzanne Sally Beck, Christine Caro Christopher and four great grandchildren Derek, Haley and Chase Craven and Audrey Marie Beck.
She had a love for her Church, golf, skiing, bridge, history, writing, genealogy and crossword puzzles. John and Gloria were like gypsies, they loved to travel and made it a point to see much of the world. They went through all of the United States, and to Europe, Russia, China, Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Africa, Australia, New Zealand, Turkey, and North and South America. Between military and civilian life John and Gloria moved 28 times. When they decided to retire in Valdosta John told the children "I'm taking your mother back to where I found her!"
In Valdosta she quickly engaged in community service and was an active member with Christian Women's Fellowship, the Historical Society, United Daughters of the Confederacy, DAR, Daughters of the American Colonies, Christian Book Club, and was the minister of the VCC women's 9-hole club. She was also the first honorary member to be voted in to the Valdosta Jr. Service League. She was respected and loved. Gloria had a Glorious life.
A Celebration of her life will be held at 11:00 am on September 10, 2016 at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 1905 N. Patterson St., Valdosta, Georgia. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Converse-Dalton-Ferrell house, 305 N. Patterson St. directly after the service. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
