Robert Glenn Williamson, 88, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024, after a lengthy illness. Glenn was born on April 23, 1936, in Barney, Georgia, to the late Walter E. and Elizabeth H. Williamson.
Glenn dedicated his career as a maintenance supervisor at Owens-Illinois, which later became part of Georgia Pacific, where he worked for over 20 years until his retirement. Not one to remain idle, he continued to work for an additional 20 years at the Market Bag Company.
Outside of work, Glenn was an avid supporter of his children's athletic pursuits, attending basketball, baseball, and softball games, and even participating in men’s basketball and softball leagues himself. He also enjoyed fishing on the river, farming on his family’s land in Morven, hunting, and cherishing time spent with his grandchildren. Glenn was a devoted member of the Morven Church of Christ.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Rhonda Williamson of Valdosta, and his daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and John Bethea of Valdosta. Glenn’s legacy continues through his grandchildren: Robbie Williamson of Springhill, Fla., Skylar (Catherine) Williamson of Valdosta, Austin (Alyssa) Bethea of Crestview, Fla., and Josh Bethea of Tampa, Fla.; and his ten great-grandchildren. He is also survived by sister-in-law Betty J. Williamson of Pavo, brother-in-law Albert McLeod of Barney, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Terry and Frances Moore of Valdosta, sister-in-law Nancy Kinsey of Valdosta, brother-in-law JR Lindler of Chapin and numerous nieces and nephews.
Glenn was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 56 years, Peggy Ann Williamson, as well as his parents, Walter E. and Elizabeth H. Williamson. In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his sister Nan Sue Williamson of Barney; brother and sister-in-law, JW and Ernestine Williamson of Jacksonville, Fla.; brother Morris Williamson of Pavo; sister and brother-in-law, France and Gene Lewis of Baxley; sister Betty L. Brady of Barney; and sister Sandra McLeod of Barney; brother-in-law Bobby Rentz of Valdosta, sister-in-law Shirley Lindler of Chapin, brother and sister-in-law Rickey and Laura Rentz of Valdosta, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Lex and Carolyn Dyess of Hagen, brother-in-law Charles Kinsey of Valdosta.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 29, 2024, in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Mr. Thomas Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in the Campground Cemetery in Morven. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
