Glenn Gorham Tucker Jr., born on June 6, 1928, in Des Moines, IA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at the age of 96. Glenn was the beloved son of the late Glenn G. Tucker Sr. and the devoted husband of the late Beverly Ann Tucker (Stoup).
At just 16 years old, Glenn enlisted in the United States Navy during World War II, serving bravely in the Pacific Theater aboard the U.S.S. Gilbert Islands. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he made the most of the GI Bill, earning his Master’s, Specialist, and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Florida despite not having graduated from High School.
Glenn was an avid fisherman, ham radio operator and marksman, hobbies he enjoyed throughout his life. He was also a proud member of the American Legion and the author of six published books. He loved cruising the open waters, but above all, Glenn was most proud of his family. He took great joy in the success of his children and grandchildren, a legacy he cherished deeply.
He is survived by his four children: David Tucker of Dayton, OH; Bruce Tucker of Gainesville, FL; Elizabeth Prince and husband Michael Moore of Lake Park, GA; and Robert Woodward and wife Sandi of Valdosta, GA. Glenn also leaves behind six grandchildren: Phil Tucker and wife Sadie; Chris Tucker; Jennifer Hilton and husband Brody; Benjamin Prince and wife Kayla; Larren Woodward; and Trey Woodward, along with seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Green of Lakeland, FL, and many extended family members and friends will also remember him fondly. Glenn was predeceased by his brother, William Tucker, and sister, Betty Hume.
