Gladys Rewis DeLoach (July 27, 1923 - April 4, 2014), passed away Friday evening at her daughter's home. She was the daughter of the late Will and Bashie Rewis.
Her friends and relatives knew her for many things. First was her strong faith and constant prayers for her loved ones and many a stranger that she saw in need, went to, and put her hands on them while she prayed. She has been a spiritual inspiration for many including a grandson, Rev. Austin DeLoach, Jr., and a missionary grandson, Danny DeLoach.
She was a strong physical person. She played basketball for Haylow as well as Echols County in 1938 where she was the Valedictorian of her 1942 Class.
Anyone who ever ate at her house at the farm where she was born, never forgot it. She would fill up the table she ate at as a child as well as a second table with food. A third smaller table would be covered with desserts. She was in her element "putting up" vegetables for her family or making that special dish any of her family liked best. Then thirty or more people on a holiday or hunting day would sit and eat. She was raised using a wood stove in that same kitchen.
She loved her flowers, having as many as two hundred blooming in her front yard at the same time. Once, she took the Christmas tree and put it in the ground by the front steps. That tree is twenty feet high today!
She really didn't care for politics, but she was her husband's best "politician". She helped him win seven state and county offices.
