GLADYS J. GARREN, 76, of Valdosta, passed away Sunday, September 6, 2009, at South Georgia Medical Center, after a brief illness.
She was born April 16, 1933 in Blountstown, FL, a daughter of the late Abbie and Sara Pipin McKinney. Mrs. Garren lived throughout the world with her husband, Chic, while he served in the U.S. Air Force, and came to Valdosta on 1969. Most recently she was employed with Sunset Farms as a food demonstrator.
Mrs. Garren was a member of the First Assembly of God Church, she enjoyed cooking and fishing, she was always there for friends in need and knew how to bring your spirits up when you were down.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Chic Garren of Valdosta; one sister and brother-in-law, Eulitha and Otis Barrett of Santa Rosa, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Michael E. Garren, and a brother, Ted McKinney.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, September 10, 2009, at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Bill Cotterill officiating. Interment will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Mrs. Garren's family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday, September 9, 2009, at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
