Geraldine Grier

Geraldine “GG” McDonald Grier age 87 of Valdosta, passed away on Tuesday October 12, 2021, at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness after a period of declining health. Born in Jasper, Florida on September 6, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Gary Vistu McDonald and Tiny Anna NeSmith McDonald. Mrs. Grier grew up in Valdosta and was a graduate of Valdosta High School in 1952. She soon married and started raising her four children. A wonderful homemaker and a devoted mother, she was involved in all her children’s activities. She enjoyed being a grandmother as well. Mrs. Grier worked at Varnedoe’s in downtown Valdosta for 14 years until the store’s closing. She was then employed with Sears for 15 years until her retirement in 2015. She was a faithful member of the West End Presbyterian Church and she loved collecting beautiful things.
Survivors are her children, Joey and Ginger Grier of Thomasville, GA. Patricia and Johnnie Brown of Valdosta, GA. Cynthia Gail Stalvey of Locust Grove, GA. Mark Jeffrey Grier of Valdosta, GA. Grandchildren: Keely Marie Frech (Matt), Kyle Michael Brown (Andrew A. Wilson) Daniel Cole Grier (Erica) Cameron Taylor Grier (Christine), Travis Kennon Stalvey (Heather), Tyler Delaney Stalvey. Great-grandchildren: Kylie Madison Frech, Matthew Lyndon Frech Jr., Michael Landon Frech, Mason Luke Frech, Jackson Kennon Stalvey, Levi Landon Stalvey, John Carter Stalvey, Allee Jane Stalvey, Olivia Ann Grier, Jackson Taylor Grier. Mrs. Grier was preceded in death by her parents, and three brothers.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday October 17, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. at Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta, GA. Reverend John Akers will officiate. In lieu of flowers donations are requested to be given to the American Heart Association or to the American Lung Society.
