Gerald R. Stalvey, 74, of Hahira died Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on September 22, 1937 in Hahira to the late E. J. and Clara Louise Newton Stalvey. Mr. Stalvey was retired from civil service at Moody Air Force Base and was a member of Hahira First Baptist Church. He graduated from Hahira High School in 1955. Mr. Stalvey loved basketball and loved his nieces and nephews and had a nickname for each one of them.
He is survived by two sisters and one brother in law, Shirley and Sonny Taylor of Hahira and Dianne Wright of Valdosta, three brothers and two sisters in law, Jimmy and Blondine Stalvey of Adel, Johnny and Karen Stalvey and Jackie Stalvey of Hahira, special caregiver and nephew, Rod Stalvey and several other nieces and nephews, two brothers in law, Jim Plaire and Grover Avera, two sisters in law, Letha Stalvey and Carolyn Stalvey. Mr. Stalvey is preceded in death by three sisters, Dorothy Avera, Mary Helen Blackwell and Linda Plaire, four brothers, Buford Stalvey, Lamar Stalvey, Harry Stalvey and Lonnie Stalvey.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 4, 2012 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Martin McLane Funeral Home in Hahira with Pastor David Gordon officiating. Burial will follow in Friendship Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from six until eight p. m. at the funeral home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the building fund at Hahira First Baptist Church, P. O. Box 555, Hahira, GA 31632.
