Georgia Smith Thomson, 83, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, April 4, 2009, following a short illness. Born in Valdosta on May 18, 1925 to the late Dr. Thomas Harding & Corrine Briggs Smith, she was a lifelong resident of this area. Mrs. Thomson was a graduate of Valdosta High School and Georgia State Womans College. In her early days she loved to sing and was a member of the Serenaders Singing Group, a founding member of the Singing Americans, and sang in the choir at her church, First Presbyterian Church, for over 60 years. Mrs. Thomson was a lifetime member of the Valdosta Junior Service League and a past board member of the Valdosta Arts Commission. She loved to play bridge and was a Life Master Bridge Player of the American Contract Bridge Association.
Survivors include her son, Conner Thomson & his wife, Angie Lewis of Cumming; daughter, Rebecca (Becky) and John David Moore of Lakeland; grandchildren, Cameron Thomson and Georgia Thomson and Thomson Moore all of Valdosta; sisters and brother-in-law, Mrs. Tom Scott and Sis & Rev. Robert McGehee, all of Valdosta; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Tom & Harriett Smith and Dr. Briggs & Lane Smith, all of Valdosta; special friend, Luneal Hart; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Jerry Long and Rev. Dawes Thomson officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 until 8 p.m. at Carson McLane Funeral Home.
