George William (Bill) Hare, Jr., 61, of Lake Park died Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on July 11, 1953 in Valdosta to the late George William Hare, Sr. and Mary Frances Smith Hare. Mr. Hare was a former school teacher at the Suwanee County High School in Live Oak, FL, a swimming coach, a United States Navy Veteran having served in Vietnam, a former foster parent at the Georgia Sheriff's Boys Ranch in Hahira, a deputy warden with the Lakeland, GA Detention Center and worked for the Department of Corrections.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne Hare of Lake Park, his daughter and son in law, Rachel Hare (Seth Berman) of Augusta, his son, Damon Hare of Atlanta, four sisters and three brothers in law, Gwen Lyle (Bill) of Ocala, FL, Aimee Stanaland of Albany, GA, Phyllis Bright (John) and Olivia King (James) of Ocala, FL and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, February 21, 2015 at two p. m. in the chapel of the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home, 3119 West Marion Avenue, Lake Park, GA. United States Navy honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends from one until two p. m. prior to the service. A reception will follow at Eagle's Roost Conference Center, 5465 Mill Store Road, Lake Park, GA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Georgia Sheriff's Boys Ranch, 5671 Highway 122 East, Hahira, GA 31632. Condolences to the family may be expressed online at www.mclanecares.com.
