George W. Clayton, Jr., 83, of Valdosta, died on Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Fellowship Home. Born in Valdosta on May 30, 1932, George was the son of the late George Washington Clayton, Sr. and Ola Belle Colson Clayton. He was a 1949 Valdosta High School graduate and he loved Wildcat football! He served his country in the United States Air Force before beginning a 30 year career with the United States Post Office. On retiring from the post office, George worked for 5 years with Hardees and then for 13 years with Chick-Fil-A in the Valdosta Mall. He was an Ambassador for Chick-Fil-A, a faithful member of Central Avenue Church of Christ and a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
George is survived by his daughters, Dee Arnold and Sheree Hudson of Valdosta; grandchildren, Stephanie and Mike Lindamood, Savanna and Michael Page of Statesboro, Emily Arnold of Valdosta; great grandchildren, Abby Lindamood, Harper Lindamood of Statesboro; brother-in-law, Elbert Lindsey of Gainesville, FL; several nieces and nephews and a large extended family. In addition to his parents, Mr. Clayton is preceded in death by his wife, Martha Wetherington Clayton; a sister, Betty Lindsey; two sons-in-law, Cleve Arnold and Russ Hudson.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2015, at 11:00 o'clock a.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Dasher Cemetery. Mr. Bryan Jarvis, Mr. Jerry DeLoach, and Mr. Bob Willis will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Central Church of Christ Building Fund 304 E.
