GEORGE ELTON ROBINSON, 90, of Hahira died Sunday, July 10, 2005 at his home surrounded by family and friends after a long and courageous battle with Parkinsons Disease. He was born on December 1, 1914 in Ellaville, Georgia to the late George R. and Effie Larkin Robinson. He was a wonderful family man and in November, 2004 he and his wife, Marjorie celebrated 69 years of marriage with party with family and friends. During his lifetime he and his wife enjoyed travels throughout the U. S. A., Canada and to the Holy Land. Mr. Robinson was a member of the Hahira United Methodist Church. He was a former member of the Rochelle United Methodist Church serving as Church School Superintendent, Lay Leader, Trustee Member and membership in the Men’s Pray Breakfast Group. Mr. Robinson retired with 35 years of service with the U. S. Department of Agriculture. A gentle man, he enjoyed being with relatives and friends and engaging his funny stories, dicussing world issues and politics. Family singing was one of his favorite activities. He was generous with his resources for Christian and charitable organizations.
He was the beloved husband of his wife of 69 years, Marjorie Robinson, a wonderful father to his daughters, Delores and husband, Mack Wayne Dowdy of LaCanada, Calif., Leonra Tillman and husband, Jerry Wright of Hahira and a deceased son, Gareth Robinson, also surviving are grandsons, Richard Dowdy and wife, Ana Maria, Brian Dowdy of California, David Tillman and wife, Vickie of Florida, Mark Tillman and wife, Marcy of North Georgia, granddaughters, Kathy Shetler of Texas and Linda Baragona of California, great grandchildren, Hannah Tillman, Richard William Dowdy, Leslie Ann Dowdy, Jason Shetler, Tommy and Kevin Baragona. He was preceded in death by a sister, Opal Smith and a brother, Howard Robinson.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, July 14, 2005 at the Hahira United Methodist Church with Rev. Ken Morgan and Rev. Lynn Hurley officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4pm at the Ellaville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 6:30-8:30 pm at the funeral home.
