George Albert Blanchard, 86, of Valdosta, died his home following a long illness on Thursday, January 05, 2017 surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on May 12, 1930 to the late Nathan Moseley Blanchard and Flonnie Fender Blanchard. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church where he served his church as an usher for years, never missing a Sunday or night service, as well as many other servant roles. He loved his church and was a devoted Christian and servant of God. He was a past member of Faith Baptist Church where he helped build and paint the church under Rev. Gene Wisehart. He loved his Lord and all people. Mr. Blanchard was a general contractor/painter his entire life. George loved going to Hardees for coffee and never met a stranger. He was a loving husband and father.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Ava Nell Jernigan Blanchard of Valdosta; two sons, Dan Blanchard and Dale Blanchard both of Valdosta; a daughter and son-in-law, Sue Blanchard Clary and Jim Clary of Valdosta; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Leigh Clary Abdou and Tony Abdou; great-grandsons, Elijah and Alexander Abdou of Gaffney, South Carolina; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Nicole Blanchard Rowe and Scott Rowe of Hahira. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jamie Lynn Clary and his brothers Harry E. Blanchard, Joe Blanchard, Norman Blanchard, and Raymond Blanchard.
Services for George Albert Blanchard will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 7, 2017 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Robertson officiating. The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the funeral home on Saturday.
