Güenther Virgil Dean Croy ("Junior"), 67, of Valdosta, died Friday, September 17th, 2021 peacefully, but unexpectedly, in his home. Born in Bamberg, Germany to the late Virgil Dean Croy, Kathe Trutschel Croy, he had lived in South Georgia since he was a boy. Known by all that loved him, Dean was extraordinarily generous and loved people. He had retired after 37 years of helping others as an RN at South Georgia Medical Center. His wife, Donna often described Dean as a “man that has a heart of gold; he would go hungry and give you the food on his plate to make sure that you had enough to eat.” He was a devoted husband who would have celebrated his 40th wedding anniversary on June 12th, 2022. Dean loved fishing, water sports, the outdoors, gardening vegetables, fruit trees, and flowers, reading, grilling and cooking, and rock & roll. Dean Croy was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served during the Vietnam Era and was of the Lutheran Faith.
Survivors include his wife, Donna Jayne Reid Croy; a son, John Croy, and a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah & James “Jamie” Phelps, all of Valdosta. Also surviving are two brothers, Thomas Croy of Nampa, ID and William (& Kim) Croy of Tifton; one sister Caroline Croy of Tifton, and many nieces and nephews. Dean Croy is preceded in death by Tripp Everidge and his grandson, Able Strength Phelps.
Visitation will be held at Carson McLane Funeral Home on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM. Immediately following will be the procession from Carson McLane Funeral Home to Sunset Hill Cemetery for the graveside service, starting at 11:00 AM.
True to Dean’s love for people, the family requests all visitors wear a mask and respect social distancing. And the family asks that any higher-risk or cautious loved ones stay home and view a recording of the service at www.mclanecares.com, on Dean’s obituary tribute wall. The last thing Dean/Junior would want would be for any loved ones to become sick from in-person attendance, so please respect his wishes and decide accordingly. Carson McLane Funeral Home
