Thomas Eugene "Gene" Walker, 71, of Valdosta, GA passed away Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Tift Regional Medical Center after a period of declining health. He was born in Jacksonville, FL on January 10, 1943 to the late Thomas Watson "T.W." and Virdie Carter Walker. Mr. Walker served in the United States Coast Guard and later became a truck driver. Many knew him by his C.B. handle "Lil' Hammer". Gene loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing and hunting in his spare time.
Gene is survived by his wife, Leesa Weldon of Tifton; two daughters, Tracy Falagan of Jacksonville, FL and Sheree Oconnor of Naylor, GA; three step-daughters, Margie Buck of Montana, Sandra Ridenour of Sulfur Springs, TX, and Tara Adams of Tifton; one step-son, Sean Johnson of Valdosta; one sister, Virginia McNabb of Oklahoma; three grandsons, George Beckham of Valdosta, Brent Player of Jacksonville, FL, and Hunter Delk of Lakeland, GA; three granddaughters, Sheena Player of Jacksonville, FL, Elizabeth Delk of Valdosta, and Mandi Brett of Jacksonville, FL; fourteen step-grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Walker was preceded in death by his wife, Christa Walker, a daughter, Becky Walker, and step-son, Ricky Dale Johnson.
Graveside services for Gene Walker will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Beaver Dam Cemetery in Ray City, GA, with Pastor John Thomas officiating. There will be no formal visitation.
