Gene Griffin

Gene Griffin, 78, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital after a very short illness.

He was born July 20, 1936, a son of the late Clarence O. and Mary Cochran Griffin. Mr. Griffin was a member of Forrest Park Church of Christ and he taught and led many people to God. He was a simple, prideful man and had honorably served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps, and had worked in construction for many years. He was a dedicated, hard-working man and worked up to the day he died.

He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Gina Griffin Ganas and Will Ganas of Valdosta; grandson, John Griffin Ganas of Valdosta; two honorary children, Jennifer Wisenbaker Copeland of Valdosta, and Ryan John Steis and his wife Amanda Steis of Valdosta; two sisters, Betty Griffin Benson and husband Jack of Richmond, VA, and Glenda Griffin Burrell of Gainesville, GA; several niece s and nephews; and a cousin, Becky Glisson and husband Bobby of Valdosta. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Carolyn Mobley Griffin; and a special uncle and aunt, Glen and Virginia Cochran.

The Funeral Service for Mr. Griffin will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 24, 2015, at Forrest Park Church of Christ, with Mr. Ryan Tuten and Mr. Ray Joyner officiating. Interment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
