G.C. Everette, age 85 of Statenville, Georgia, passed away on December 15, 2013 at his home. He was born in Ousley, GA to the late George C. and Eva Sellars McKay Everette on March 5, 1928. He graduated from Echols County High School and served in the Korean War in the artillery unit. G.C. was a member of Alapaha Lodge #209 for 65 years. He retired after 30 years, from Owen Illinois Paper Mill and then began a second career building houses. He loved fishing and his animals. He enjoyed many bowls of his favorite sister-in-law's soup, and was always ready to help his community's residents in need of an electrician or plumber. G.C. was a member of Statenville Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He also thoroughly enjoyed working for McLane Lakewood Funeral Home for many years.
G.C. is survived by his wife of 57 years, Dolores Collier Everette of Statenville, GA; a son and daughter-in-law, Anthony and Linda Everette of Statenville, GA; a daughter and son-in-law, Shree and Greg Martin of Cumming, GA; nine grandchildren and their spouses, Steven & Melissa Martin of of Madison, GA, Sgt. Jordan and Shannon Martin of Cumming, GA, Christy Howell of Clinton, MS, Mandy and Rick Neely of Terry, MS, Omar Everette, Cristian Mendoza, Adriana Everette, Mara Cook and Jesus Everette all of Statenville, GA; eleven great grandchildren; a sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth and Johnny Crump of Hawkinsville, GA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lonnie and Nell Collier and Willie and Nedra Collier all of Statenville, GA, Myrna Faye Oxendine of Fort Myers, FL and Bernice Lovett of Jennings, FL and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his parents, and two sisters, Annie Jane Henderson and Hedy Guessner; a grandson, Spc. Michael Smith.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, December 17, 2013, at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Erle McMichen and Rev. Jack Sanders officiating, with burial to follow in the Statenville Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 5 to 7pm. at the McLane Lakewood Funeral Home.
