Gayle M. Smith Zeigler, 67, of Valdosta died Friday, October 18, 2013 at her residence surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born on December 15, 1945 in Valdosta to the late Benjamin Ira Moore and Annie Mae Bailey Moore. Gayle was a graduate of Lowndes High School and attended Valdosta State College where she received a degree in nursing. She was a member of the Nursing Association and was selected for Who's Who of America for Academic Achievement. Gayle worked with Dr. Joe Stubbs, Dr. Gregory Beale and Dr. Allen Woods for many years. She worked as a registered nurse at South Georgia Medical Center and was awarded the distinguished honor for most caring nurse. Gayle volunteered at Edith Garlow Johnston Library in Lake Park and was a member of the Reading Club. She was of the Baptist faith and attended Abundant Life Church of God. Gayle enjoyed traveling and especially loved the beach. Her favorite and most cherished times were spent with her family, especially her grandchildren whom she was affectionately known by them as "GiGi". Gayle enjoyed sewing and gardening.

She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Stacy Lee and Amanda Smith of Lake Park, three grandchildren, Taylor Alexis Smith, Seth Lee Smith and Channing Elizabeth Smith, her sisters and brothers in law, Ann M. and Aldean Dukes of Dasher and Iris M. and Danny L. Bailey of Valdosta, the father of her son, Jerome Smith of Quitman, her sister in law and brother in law, Tina and Mark Lorge of Laguna Beach, CA, lifetime beloved friend, Pat Hodges of Valdosta, numerous nieces and nephews, her stepson, Heath Zeigler and his wife, Grace of Dahlonega and her stepdaughter, Liska Hamm and her husband, Brent of Valdosta. Gayle is preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, Kenton F. Moore, L. Wayne Moore, Jack F. Moore, Billy G. Moore and Bobby E. Moore and one sister, Juanita Pauline Cutler.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 21, 2013 at two p. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Wayne Hughes officiating. Entombment will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from four until six p. m. Sunday at the funeral home. Gayle was well known for placing a cross in the hands of others with her message "this will not save you or cure you but it is a reminder of who can" never forgetting that the way to the cross leads home.

The family would like to thank Darlene Layman, Wanda Thomas, Lynn Dobson, Lee Parrish, Kay Linahan and Bethany Hospice for their loving care.
