Gary Franklin Minchew

Gary Franklin Minchew died peacefully, Tuesday, April 26, 2022 at the Langdale Hospice House surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident of Valdosta, GA, Mr. Minchew was born on January 25, 1944 to Carl Deen Minchew and Agnes Reid Minchew. Mr. Minchew became a charter member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church as a child, and remained a member throughout his life. He attended Valdosta High School and played for the Wildcats on the championship teams of 1960 and 1961 under the legendary Coach Wright Bazemore. Mr. Minchew attended the University of Georgia, where he played on the UGA football team and was a member of Sigma Nu Fraternity.
Mr. Minchew began his career as a residential builder. He later ventured into the commercial real estate industry where he was instrumental in brokering key retail and restaurant deals around the St. Augustine Road, James Road, and Valdosta Mall area. Gary especially enjoyed helping to bring sought-after restaurants and retailers to Valdosta. During the time of his commercial brokerage work, Mr. Minchew was appointed by the City of Valdosta to serve on the Lowndes County Industrial Authority from 2006-2010, where he served as Secretary/Treasurer from 2006-2009, and was appointed Chairman from 2009-2010. Prior to his retirement, Mr. Minchew developed residential neighborhoods off N. Valdosta Rd. and in Hahira, as well as various commercial developments.
Mr. Minchew was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Teresa Rodgers Minchew. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Teresa Agnes Minchew and half-brothers Donald D. Minchew, and Carl D. Minchew, Jr.
He is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Stan and Tiffany (Minchew) Cox of Johns Creek, GA, daughter and son-in-law, Sean and Courtney (Minchew) Reynolds, of Winter Springs, FL; grandchildren Alden Cox of Johns Creek, GA, Ryan Reynolds, Carson Reynolds, Reagan Reynolds, Jenna Reynolds, Catherine Reynolds and Braden Reynolds, all of Winter Springs, FL, and his sister, Jan Reid Minchew of Valdosta.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the caregivers from Hospice of South Georgia and Home Instead. A graveside remembrance for Mr. Minchew will be held on Sunday, May 1, 2022 at 2:00 at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Towson officiating.
