Mr. Gary George Stevenson, 72, of Valdosta, formerly of Fernandina Beach, FL, died on January 4, 2016 at Langdale Hospice House following a long battle with leukemia.
Gary was born to Theron and Era Stevenson and was raised in the Jacksonville, FL area. He was employed for many years by Smurfit Paper Mill in Fernandina, retiring in 2005. Gary enjoyed spending time with family, camping, watching the Florida Gators and Nascar races, as well as working on projects in and around his home.
He is survived by his wife, Latrelle Dodd Stevenson, Valdosta; a daughter, Amanda "Sam" Rommeney (Rob) of Asheville, NC; son-in-law Walt Paetsch, Fernandina; daughter-in-law, Dawn Roe, Fernandina; brother Bobby Stevenson (Dot), Nashville, TN; nieces and nephew Sherrie, Theresa and Stevie of Nashville, TN and Gail and Debbie of Jacksonville, FL; grandchildren Josh Paetsch (Hilary), Jeremy Paetsch, Fernandina; B.J. Bullington, Gary Bullington (Jessica) and Cierra Rommeney, Asheville, NC; Lindsay Allbritton (Perry), St. Mary's, and Logan Stevenson, Fernandina. Gary was also the proud Great-Grandfather to Theron, Griffin and Lorelei Paetsch, Athena Bullington, Bo Bullington, Nate and Aaron Hardwood and his newest great grandson, Lofton Allbritton who was born on December 26, 2015.
Gary is also survived by stepchildren Belinda Holmes (Danny), Lake Park, GA; Cindy Henley, Savannah, GA and Steve Dodd, Tifton, GA; step grandchildren Rebecca Stripling (Bill), Stephanie Clark (Justin) and Andrew Holmes (Olivia), all of Lake Park; Victoria Henley and John Christian Henley, Savannah, GA as well as sister-in-law Diane Goldman (Jimmy Davis), Savannah, GA.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Billy and James Paul Stevenson and sister Rachel Brown; the mother of his children Helen Boone Stevenson; his daughter Tina Stevenson Paetsch and his son David Earl "Bo" Stevenson.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home, Valdosta, Georgia. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
