Garry Levon Sandlin, 56, of Valdosta, Georgia, passed away suddenly at his home Monday, May 14, 2018.
Garry was born in Valdosta on December 2, 1961, the son of the late Billie Iona Fielding Sandlin and Virgil Levon Sandlin. He was a graduate of Lowndes High School’s class of 1979, and a member of First United Methodist Church in Valdosta. He was a lover of the outdoors, and was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a long-time employee of Trus Joist MacMillan.
Garry is survived by two children, who were his whole heart. His daughter, Whitney Taylor, whom he adored, married Will Taylor, and gave Garry the joy of becoming a grandfather to their daughter, Wellsley Marie Taylor, and the joy of expecting a second granddaughter, who will arrive any day. Garry’s gentle spirit, love for the outdoors and his dry sense of humor lives on in his son Garrod Sandlin and Mikayla Fillyaw.
Garry’s siblings—who were his neighbors, greatest champions and closest companions—all survive him. They include: a twin brother, Larry Sandlin and Dana Upson; brother, Brian Sandlin; and two sisters and brothers-in-law: Sherry and Paul Zipperer and Suzanne and Frank Roberts.
Garry is also loved and survived by several aunts, uncles and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Garry’s life will be held at 2pm, Thursday, May 17, 2018 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. Zakk Cumbess officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-7pm at Park Place, 108 W. Park Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31602. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
