Garnell Rudolph (George) Riner

September 4, 1929 — June 9, 2012

Garnell Rudolph (George) Riner, 82, of Hahira, died on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at the Langdale Hospice House following a brief illness. He was born on September 4, 1929 in Emanuel County, Georgia to the late Luke and Mary Edenfield Riner. Formerly of Swainsboro, Georgia he has been a resident of Hahira for the past thirty years. He was a retired realtor and small lawn mower repairman. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed fishing with his buddy, Gene Ivey, and was a member of the Musicians Union in Washington, D.C. He was a bass and rhythm guitar session player and played with the likes of Waylon Jennings, Bill Anderson, and Roy Clarke just to name a few. Mr. Riner was also a member of Union Baptist Church in Swainsboro.

Survivors include his wife Barbara Jean Riner of Hahira; son and daughter-in-law, Rick and June Riner of Brooks County, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Tim Coombs of Hahira; grandchildren, Chris and Carla Coombs of Valdosta, Sarah and Forrest Davies of Columbus, Georgia, Rebekah Riner of Columbus, Georgia, Racheal and Matthew Lynn of Pelham, Georgia, Tracy Riner of Texas, Rick, Jr. and Tracy Riner of Pelham, Georgia, Jeannett and Doug Newland of Maryland, Faith Delong, Emanuel Riner, Joy Riner, and Jonathan Riner all of Lehigh Acres, Florida; 16 great-grandchildren; his sister, Mary Minton of East Dublin, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Riner, two brothers, Arthur and Ethell Riner and brother-in-law, Junior Minton.

Services for George Riner will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Martin/McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Ike Jefferson and Rev. Leonard Harnage officiating. The burial will follow in the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Martin/McLane Funeral Home. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church, Langdale Hospice House or Hahira Church of God food bank.
