Gail Steltenpohl, 84, of Valdosta, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at her home. She was born on January 27, 1941, to the late Lacy McLeod and Olive Viva Walker Sharpe. She grew up in Valdosta and graduated from Valdosta High School in 1959. She met Richard Steltenpohl in Daytona on the beach in 1959. They were married on September 11, 1959. Mrs. Steltenpohl followed him during his 20-year military career, and they returned to Valdosta after his retirement in 1976. She worked in Accounting at Accounts Receivable at Moody AFB for 30 years. Mrs. Steltenpohl loved crocheting and writing in her journal. She was a proud GA Bridgeman Band Mom when her kids were in the band in the 1980’s. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren at the beach and sporting events.
Mrs. Steltenpohl is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sondra and Dennis Humes, of Valdosta, daughter Donna Gail Steltenpohl (Albert Alaniz) of Washington, DC, son Richard C. Steltenpohl, of Valdosta, and son Billy Ray Steltenpohl, of Ray City, GA; her grandchildren, Veronica Humes, Michael Caleab Humes (Hanna), Tabitha Alaniz, Travis Alaniz, Robby Steltenpohl (Lisa), John Cory Steltenpohl (Judianne), Ryan Steltenpohl (Olivia), and Jenni Steltenpohl; twelve great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Julie Sharpe, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepfather Daniel T. Sharpe, her husband Richard Charles Steltenpohl, Sr. and brother Daniel T. Sharpe.
Funeral services will be held at 11am on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 at the River Pavilion at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens with Pastor Robby Steltenpohl officiating. Burial will follow in the cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11am at the pavilion.
