G. K. (Ken) Register, 74, of Hahira, passed away Thursday, March 31, 2016, at his home after a brief illness.
He was born May 23, 1941, in Cook County, the son of the late Kenneth and Alma Fulp Register. Ken grew up in Hahira, where he graduated from high school. He then served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Ft. Benning. After his honorable discharge, he began his career with the U.S. Postal Service, working in the Valdosta office as a Letter Carrier, and retiring after thirty years of service. He was a member of Morningside Baptist Church, Valdosta, where he loved going to church. Ken enjoyed his family (especially his grandchildren), friends and farming.
He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Shirley McDaniel Register; son and daughter-in-law, Rex and Hollie Register; daughter, Diane Register Hiers; three grandchildren, Hannah Register, Hope and Holden Hiers, all of Hahira; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Joy and Franklin McDaniel of Hahira, and Ann and Ralph Knight of Atlanta; and many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Register will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Fellowship Baptist Church, Cecil, with Pastor Wayne Robertson officiating. Interment will follow at Fellowship Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Martin-McLane Funeral Home, Hahira.
