Freeman "Little Free" Fletcher, Jr., 73, lifelong resident of Valdosta, died after a period of declining health on Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Smith Northview Hospital. Born in Valdosta on May 29, 1940 he attended Lake Park High School and was an avid outdoorsman in his younger years, enjoying hunting and fishing. Mr. Freeman was a skilled carpenter who worked with his family and others in building homes and other projects. He had a talent for building beautiful furniture such as baby beds, cradles, tables, gun cabinets and other special items. His work was unique with no two pieces alike.
Survivors are his mother, Sarah Fletcher of Valdosta, a son, Kenneth Fletcher and his fiancee, Angela Gray of Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Brenda Kay and Mike Allen of Lake Park; brothers and sisters in law, Raymond and Mary Ann Fletcher, Bobby and Jinny Fletcher, Foster Fletcher, all of Valdosta; sisters, Vivian Parrish and Maxine Martin of Valdosta; brother in law, Morris Witherspoon of Valdosta; grandchildren, Blair (Scott) Fender of Lake Park, Ethan Colvin of Dasher, Michael Allen of Lake Park; great grandchildren, Ryder, Dakota and Noah Fender of Lake Park; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Freeman was preceded in death by his father, Freeman Fletcher and a sister, Peggy Witherspoon.
A graveside service for Mr. Fletcher will be held today, Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at 3 p.m. at Hickory Grove Cemetery. Mr. Ferrell Morris will officiate.
