Fred Luther McCrary, 75, of Valdosta, died on Sunday, May 23,2021, at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was born on February 10, 1946 in Jacksonville, Florida to the late William Henry and Flora Lee Rutledge McCrary. The “Colonel “, as he was affectionately known, was a self-employed truck driver and a member of Central Avenue Church of Christ. He had worked with Black Brothers Electrical Company and Valdosta Electric in years past before pursing his passion of the open road and driving the big rigs. He was a classic car enthusiast and a former member of the South Georgia Classic Car Club. He was an avid fan of college football, especially the Georgia Bulldogs and he loved to fish.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pat McCrary; three daughters and a son-in-law, Kathy and Greg Blanton, Missy Pike and Michelle Metts all of Valdosta; grandchildren, Lindsey Warren of Valdosta, Jay and Erin Blanton of Lake Park, Heather Williams of Marietta, Hailee Pike of Kennesaw, Kaleb Pike and Lexi Metts both of Valdosta; two great-grandchildren, Noah Warren and Easton Warren; his brother, David McCrary; two nephews, Michael and Julie McCrary and Justin McCrary. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jene Emory Peebles McCrary and his sister, Audrey Blanton.
Services for Fred Luther McCrary will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 27, 2021 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Mr. John Klimko officiating. The burial will follow in the Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
