Frank Eugene Taormina, 89, died on Friday, February 10, 2023, in Alpharetta, Georgia. He was born on September 8, 1933, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Frank was a graduate of Tulane University and Louisiana State University Medical School. He began his medical practice in New Orleans, where he met and married his wife Anna Laura Rordam. The family moved to Winston Salem, North Carolina, while he continued his medical education, and then to Grosse Pointe, Michigan, where he resumed private practice as a thoracic and cardiovascular surgeon. The family moved to Valdosta in 1978, where Frank continued to practice medicine until illness forced him to retire in 1999. He was on staff at SGMC, where he was known as Dr. T., and is remembered for his dedication to providing excellent and compassionate patient care and for whistling in the hallways. After his retirement, Frank lived briefly in Valdosta and New Orleans, before moving to the Atlanta area to be near family.
Frank is survived by his eight children, Andrew (Patricia) Taormina and their children, Niamh, Róisín, and grandson Michael; Mary (Robert) Gibson, and their children, Lily and Thomas; Michael (Gina) Taormina and their children, Gabrielle, Grayson, Abby, Avery, Evan; Anna Taormina and her daughter Eleanor; Mark Taormina; Rosemary (Mike Re) Taormina; Peter Taormina and his children Laura, Aaron, and Andrew; Christine (Justin) Cabral and their children Rocco and Gianna; his brother, Monsignor Andrew Taormina; and his brother-in-law Ed Rordam (Martha). He was predeceased by his wife, Anna Rordam Taormina, his parents, Eugene Frank and Rosalie (Lil) Taormina, his daughter-in-law, Sharon Toner Taormina, and his parents-in-law, Edmund and Anna (Mae) Rordam.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, February 17, 2023 at 1pm at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Valdosta, celebrated by Monsignor Taormina.
