Frank Stanaland Christian

Frank Stanaland Christian, 89, died on Thursday, October 18, 2012 at his home. He was born in Vidalia Georgia on April 27, 1923 to the late Claude Lorraine Christian and Mary Connie "Madie" Stanaland Christian. Frank graduated from Valdosta High School in 1941 and briefly attended the University of Georgia where he majored in music. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Air Corps in Okinawa.
He returned to Valdosta in 1946 where he met and married his wife of 65 years, Carolyn Bowen Christian of Statesboro, Georgia. He spent a lifetime blessing others with the gift of music as a soloist for choirs, weddings, funerals and evangelistic meetings. From the age of three when his family moved to Valdosta, he was a member of First Baptist Church where he was baptized and served as Deacon until he became a Charter Member of Perimeter Road Baptist Church.
Frank was a Real Estate Developer and Builder for over fifty years. He served on the Lowndes County Planning Commission for twelve years, on the Valdosta-Lowndes County Tax Board and as Chairman of Lowndes County Tax Equalization Board. He was a member of the Valdosta Rotary Club.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Carolyn Bowen Christian, and his sons, Frank S "Stan" Christian, Jr (Charlotte) of Quitman, Robert Bowen Christian of Valdosta, and Charles Lorraine Christian of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; grandchildren, Stephany Norris (Stephen) of Savannah, Todd Christian (Lisa) and Karen Long (Chris) of Charleston, SC, Molly Christian and Emily Christian of Valdosta, Cara Christian, David Christian, and Georgia Sanders (Shawn) of Panama City, Fl; great-grandchildren, Jacob Norris, Benjamin Norris, Matthew Christian, Sara Anne Christian, Ethan Long and Brady Long. He is survived by six nieces and two nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Madie Mann and brother-in-law, E C "Buck" Mann, sister Sara Frances Christian, and brother Claude Lorraine Christian, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Perimeter Road Baptist Church. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 4-6 p.m. at the Carson McLane Funeral Home. The Reverend Brian Anderson and Reverend Wayne Dorsett will officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to Perimeter Road Baptist Church or to the Mailbox Club.
