Frank Joseph Lathron

Frank Joseph Lathron, 86, of Valdosta, died on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Fellowship Home following a lengthy period of declining health. He was born on July 4, 1933 in Rochester, New York to the late Myron and Anna Scognetti Lathron. He was retired from the United States Air Force as Senior Master Sergeant and served during both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts. During his tenure, he was awarded many medals and citations including, but not limited to, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Air Force Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Frank was Chief of Security at Moody Air Force Base prior to his retirement. Mr. Lathron was involved with the ’96 summer Olympics in Atlanta as the Security Superintendent. He was also an Olympian in several Senior Olympics competitions, where he was a multi gold medalist. Mr. Lathron was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.
He is survived by his three daughters and two sons-in-law, Deborah Lathron Martin and Charles Martin of Wallback, West Virginia, Darlene Lathron Steele and Chad Steele of Boise, Idaho, and Denise Lathron of Ocala, Florida; step-daughter and son-in-law, Riza and Jun Alegre of Lee, Florida; step-son and daughter-in-law, Zaldy and Myrna Andagan of Valdosta; thirteen grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great, great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mauralita Lisondra Lathron; and a sister, Anna Torre.
A memorial service for Frank Lathron will be held at a later date and time and will be announced by the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Interment at Tallahassee National Cemetery will also take place at a later date and time. The family of Mr. Lathron would like to acknowledge all of the dedicated staff at Fellowship Home for all of the care, compassion and love that was given to both Frank and Mauralita during their time there. Also, a special thanks to Frank’s nurse with Regency Care Hospice, Courtney Youmans. In lieu of flowers for the future memorial service, the family has asked that donations be made to the Fellowship Home Activity Fund.
