Frank Golden

Frank Golden, 82, of Valdosta and formerly of Albany died Thursday, August 7, 2008 at the Langdale Hospice House.

He was born in Cuthbert, GA and lived in the Graves Community and graduated from Graves School in Terrell County. Following graduation, he served in the U. S. Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946, then in the Naval Reserves until 1953. Mr. Golden graduated form the University of Georgia in 1949 and obtained his masters degree form the University of North Carolina in public administration. In 1955, he moved to Waycross with Georgia Department of Public Health. He then moved to Valdosta in 1965 as district director environmental health until his retirement from the state in 1975. He worked as a consultant with Flood and Associates for three years, then moved to Albany in 1980 and returning to Valdosta in 2006. Mr. Golden was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Valdosta and former member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Albany. He was very active with Kiwanis and had served as President of the Valdosta Kiwanis Club and the Albany Kiwanis Club. Mr. Golden was a distinguished Lt. Governor of the Georgia District of Kiwanis International and served as state committee chairman of various committees.

Survivors include his wife, Laverne Golden of Valdosta, two sons and daughters in law, Alan and Dale Golden of Suwannee, GA., Tim and Ellen Golden of Valdosta, three grandsons, Reid Golden of Watkinsville, Ben Golden of Atlanta and Seth Golden of Valdosta, two sisters, Nick McCook of Cuthbert and Margaret Clure of Smithville and a brother, Jim Golden of Tifton.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 5-7pm at the Carson McLane Funeral Home and funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, August 9, 2008 in the chapel of Kimbrell-Stern Funeral Directors in Albany with Rev. Waldo Woodcock officiating. Burial will follow in the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
