Frank Adams Strickland, Jr., 62, of Valdosta, died on Monday, October 29,2018 after a 5-year, courageous battle with cancer. Growing up in Valdosta, Frank went to high school at McCallie School in Chattanooga, TN, and graduated in 1975. He then went to the University of Alabama and then graduated from Mercer University in 1979. After college, he began working for his family’s Holiday Inn franchise and then joined the banking and financial services industry with Nations Bank as a commercial lender in 1990. He worked for several investment houses before starting work for Wells Fargo and was currently a Senior Vice President with them. Frank is a member of Park Avenue United Methodist Church and served as a trustee with the Methodist Home for Children & Youth and Epworth by the Sea. Frank was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting with his friends and fishing with his son. He won the Greater Jacksonville Kingfish Tournament in 1996 and in 2000. He also loved being involved each year with the National Wild Turkey Federation Disability Hunt each year. Frank was also a rabid, University of Alabama football fan and very involved with several other community and civic organizations.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Leslie Strickland of Valdosta; son, Frank Adams Strickland, III of Jacksonville, a daughter, Rebecca Strickland Provow and her husband Spenser of Murfreesboro, TN and two grandchildren, Natalae Grace and Adley Kathryn Provow, also of Murfreesboro; his mother Miriam Strickland Mays and her husband, Locke, of Columbia, SC; his two sisters, Freddie Strickland (Paul) Rodgers of Columbia, SC, and Georgia Miriam Strickland, of Santa Barbara, CA and a brother, Joe (Margaret) Strickland, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; a cousin, who was like a brother to him, Emory Waters, of Atlanta; and three additional ‘sisters’, Amanda Mays (Joe) Budd and Mary H. Mays, Elisabeth Mays (Benton) Willamson. He is preceded in death by his father, Frank Adams Strickland.
The funeral for Frank will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2018 at Park Avenue United Methodist Church. Rev. Jimmy Towson and Rev. Jamie Bone will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12:30 until service time. Following the service, the family will go to Sunset Hill Cemetery for the committal.
