Francis Wayne Smith, 45, of Atlanta, formerly of Valdosta, died on Saturday, July 1, 2006 at Atlanta Medical Center following a lengthy illness.
Born on March 24, 1961, in Valdosta to Lota and Mitchell Smith, Wayne attended local schools and then Valdosta State University, where he pledged Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. He received a degree in accounting from Georgia State University. After completing his education, Wayne settled in Atlanta and worked as a CPA for various companies, one of which he helped to establish. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church of Valdosta.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by two brothers: John Smith, Atlanta and Bruce Smith and his wife Cathie and son, Sean Haley, all of Kennesaw; two aunts: Morris Smith and Margaret Hendry and her husband Alex all of Valdosta and many cousins and friends in Valdosta and Atlanta. Wayne’s cheerfulness and enjoyment of life will be missed by many.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Webb officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunset Hill Cemetery.
