Frances Rochelle Lunsford Moran, 78, of Valdosta, died on Tuesday, December 20, 2005 at her residence. Born on October 20, 1927 in Troy, AL, she was the daughter of the late Jesse Monroe Lunsford and Emma Alma Harris Lunsford and the widow of Paul “Sam Barfield” Moran. She was an authentic picture of the virtuous woman. She was a supportive wife, mother, grandmother and friend who always had time to listen and to share well-chosen words of wisdom. She raised her family before returning to work as a paraprofessional in the Valdosta City School system. She began working as a rural letter carrier with the United States Postal Service in her 50’s and retired after 25 years of service in September 2005. She loved her work and cared for the people on her routes and was named Georgia’s Rural Letter Carrier of the Year in 1999. She was active in the state and national levels of the Rural Letter Carriers Association, attending conventions as a delegate and greatly supporting the junior activities for children ages 6 to 21. As a rural letter carrier, she was a member of the QWL-EI (Quality of Work Life) team. She was a member of the Woodmen of the World and enjoyed the fellowship and friendships she shared there. She was a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class at Park Avenue United Methodist Church and counted her class members as some of her closest friends. Her greatest accomplishments were raising six children who loved and respected her dearly and supporting her grandchildren in all of their endeavors, be it a baseball game, a concert, a ballet recital, or just listening to them when they needed to talk. She was gentle and strong, caring, yet firm. What a treasured legacy she leaves to all of us who loved her.
She is survived by her brother, James Michael Lunsford of Merritt Island, FL; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Paula Lynn and Ron Williams, Robin and Norman Bennett all of Valdosta, Pamela Adams, Judy and Burton McDaniel all of Alpharetta; two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Betsy Moran of Dublin, James and Michelle Moran of Old Fort, NC; twenty-two grandchildren, Evan Williams, Blair Williams, Drew Williams, Taylor Williams, Blake Williams Lankford, James Daniel “J.D.” Moran, Kaylyn Moran, Paul Moran, Jacob Moran, Kyle Leisey, Erin Leisey Moore, Trent Leisey, Holly Bennett, Tracey Bennett Hall, Scott Bennett, Alan “A.J.” Adams, Keith Adams, Amanda Adams, Wesley McDaniel, Ali McDaniel, Anna McDaniel, Will McDaniel; nine great grandchildren, Laine Jackson, Kale Leisey, Kyleigh Leisey, Ean Moran, Cai Moran, Tripp Lankford, Claire Lankford, Tanner Bennett, Lorelei Bennett; and a host of nieces and nephews.
