Frances "Fran" Chewning

Frances “Fran” Chewning, 62, of Crystal River passed away on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Fran was born on January 12, 1956 in Lake City, Florida to the late James Lee Jr. and Frances Dunaway.

Fran is a graduate of Florida Atlantic University with a degree in Education and continued on to receive her Master’s of Education with an emphasis on Educational Leadership from St. Leo University. Fostering, encouraging, and educating students was Fran’s passion and she worked at Crystal River Primary School in the Citrus County School system for 15 years. Fran and her husband Joe have made Crystal River their home for the past 21 years.

Fran is survived by her husband of 39 years, Joe Chewning. Three daughters: Kristen Alaimo (Joe) of Beverly Hills, FL; Kaity Chewning of Tallahassee, FL; and Kimber Chewning of Boston, MA. Two grandchildren: Kolton and Joselyn. A brother Mike Dunaway of Jacksonville, FL and a sister Rosemary McLeod (Spike) of Jasper, FL. Her father and mother-in-law William “WR” and Tommie Chewning of Lake Park, GA. Sisters-in-law: Sandy Kenny (Bobby) of Hahira, GA and Cherri Arnold (Paul) of Valdosta, GA. She is predeceased by brother-in-law Richard Chewning. Fran is also survived by an extended family comprised of many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, friends, and many others who loved her.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend Danny Smith officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1-2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations towards the Stoneman Douglas Victim’s Fund.
