Frances Almarene Dawkins

November 23, 1934 — November 12, 2015

Frances Almarene Dawkins, 80, of Valdosta, passed away at her home on Thursday November 12, 2015 after a brief illness. Born in Naylor on November 23, 1934 she was the daughter of the late Granger Jacob and Mildred Peters Copeland. She had retired from the Lowndes County School System as Lunch Room Manager for the Lake Park Elementary School after 28 years and she was an accomplished cook. An avid basketball and Braves baseball fan, she loved her family, children and grandchildren. Mrs. Dawkins was a lifelong member of Benevolence Baptist Church where she loved her church family just as she loved her own family. She possessed a great memory, and was a true historian, assisting with many historial writings. Everywhere she went she knew someone.
Survivors are her son and daughter in law, Jim and Karen Dawkins of Valdosta; daughter and son in law, Julie and Greg Fielding of Valdosta; daughter in law, Elaine Dawkins of Valdosta; grandchildren, Jennifer Dawkins of Monroe, North Carolina, Parker Pridgen of Lake Park, J.C. Dawkins of Marshville, North Carolina, Bree and Matt Staskal of Clarksville, Tennessee, Jenna Fielding of Valdosta; great grandson, Grady James Staskal of Clarksville, Tennessee; sister, Carolyn Jackson of Valdosta; brothers and sisters in law, Robert and Joyce Copeland of Valdosta, Carlton and Linda Copeland of Alachua, Florida; sisters in law, Mary Copeland and Bashie Copeland of Lake Park, and Virginia Dawkins of Peachtree City; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey James Dawkins, a son, Joe Dawkins, brothers, John David Copeland and Jacob Copeland.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2015, at 11 am in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home. Brother Earl Justice and Brother David Paulk will officiate. Burial will follow at the Benevolence Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. Condolences may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
