We've caught up all the dogs, you can home now Daddy. Foster Zipperer was 93 when his Savior called him home on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at Langdale Hospice House. He was born on February 1, 1921 in Valdosta to the late Charles Edward and Lucy Hilden Roberts Zipperer. Foster was thankful to the Lord. He deeply loved his family and friends. Mr. Zipperer was a loyal member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church for 83 years.
Foster's hobby and passion was his Walker Foxhounds and he raised and bred his own bloodlines for many generations.
He proudly served as a military policeman in the United States Army during World War II in the Far East Theatre. In Japan after the war, Foster guarded the Prime Minister and General Tojo as he was going to trial for war crimes. When the paper mill in Clyattville started up in 1954, he got a job in the pulp mill. He retired in 1983 as a digestor cook.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years, Hazel L. Zipperer of Valdosta, son and daughter in law, Kevin, Sr. and Tanya Zipperer of Valdosta, two daughters, Darlene Proctor of Lake Park and Tambrey Carlson of St. Petersburg, FL, grandchildren, Kevin Zipperer, Jr. and his fiance' Anna Eaton of Valdosta, Kristy and Buck Paulk of Ray City, Kerri and Dusty Strickland of Mayday, Justin Proctor and his girlfriend, Paige Hiers of Lake Park, six great grandchildren and one expected soon, his sister, Delphia Peace of Valdosta, numerous nieces and nephews, his special friend and hunting buddy, George Garnett of Valdosta. He was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters, Viva Jones, Floride Miller, Aleph Breland, Blanche Kelly, Vivian Zipperer, Aubrey Zipperer, Lawrence Zipperer, Stanley Zipperer and Leonard Zipperer.
Foster will be missed by many. He touched so many people's lives in so many different ways. It was a privilege to know him. He was a son of God, son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and a friend.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday, May 31, 2014 at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church with Rev. Roger Mays officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the Mt. Zion Church. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online at www.mclanecares.com.
