Faye Marie Hagan Grice

April 3, 1939 — July 14, 2014

Faye Marie Hagan Grice, 75, of Valdosta, died Sunday, July 13, 2014 at her home. She was born in Coolidge, GA on April 3, 1939 to the late James Leslie Hagan and Luna Viola Shepherd Hagan. Mrs. Grice was a mother and homemaker staying very active in 4-H clubs and band for several years. After her kids grew up, she began work at Holly Hills Nursing Home as a Nurse's Aid and then worked as a school guard at S.L. Mason for the Valdosta Police Department for a few years. After that she began substitute teaching and then serving as a Para-professional at Westside Elementary and Lowndes High School; retiring after 22 years. Following her retirement, she worked for Sam's Club and Shirley's His and Hers. Mrs. Grice was a true people person who loved working with and serving people all her life and she always met you with a smile. She also loved working in her yard and cooking with and for her family. Mrs. Grice enjoyed her animals, especially Snowball her dog and feeding her goats and other animals. She was always excited about riding the golf cart and going fishing with anyone who would take her. She was a member of First Christian Church and there she was active with IGS, Adventures and Merry Makers Sunday School class and the Red Hat Society at New Harvest United Methodist Church.

Faye is survived by her husband of 57 years, Floyd Grice of Valdosta, one daughter and son in law, Joy and Bud Bassford of Valdosta, one son and daughter in law, Dale and Elaine Grice of Valdosta, eight grandchildren, Trey Bassford, Mark (Jessica) Bassford, Brett Bassford, Chase Grice and Carelee Douglas all of Valdosta, Brittany (Danny) Howell of Spokane, WA, Brian Cook of Alpheretta, GA, and Derrick Cook of Griffin, GA; four great grandchildren, Mason and Stella Bassford of Valdosta and Jackson and Austin Howell of Spokane, WA. She was also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Along with Mrs. Grice's parents, she is preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters. The family would like to extend many thanks to all who cared for Mrs. Grice; you were a blessing to her family- Annie Randell, Barbara Walton, Sheree Alexander, Barbara Myers, Betty Browning, Marsha Green, Mildred Davis, Sarah Dasher, Connie Thompkins, Wanda Hall. Also United Hospice of Valdosta, Jo, Macey, Brenda and all the staff and Shawn Tywon P.A. and the staff at South Georgia Health Group.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the First Christian Church with Reverend Chris Michael officiating. Mrs. Grice will lie in state at the church from 10 until 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the church prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Sunset Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a reception at the church following the committal at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to First Christian Church, 1905 N.
