Evelyn Mccurdy Hiers

Mrs. Evelyn McCurdy Hiers, 84, of Echols County, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, March 02, 2016, at her home. Evelyn was a dedicated mother and grandmother, she will be greatly missed.
Born in Waterloo, Irwin County, Georgia, on August 13, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Bob McCurdy and Mildred Ezel King. Evelyn worked as Director of Lowndes Service Center, retiring in 1993. She was formerly an active volunteer with the Pink Ladies Auxilliary of South Georgia Medical Center and was a member of Sardis Baptist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband, Farris Herbert Hiers, and a grandson, Ricky Pounds, Jr., survivors are her son and daughter in law, Randy and Karen Hiers of Lake Park, daughters and sons in law, Elaine and Ed Parker, Kay and Marshall Hughes of Valdosta; grandchildren and their spouses, Rachel and Doyle Rogers, Rebecca and Shelby Hill, Bert and Amanda Hiers all of Lake Park, Rozie and Wes Simpson of Valdosta, Rita and Kenn Cleveland of Lake Park, Cal and Alicia Parker of Reynolds, Doris and Glen McDonald of Sumner, Vic Parker of Jesup; great grandchildren, Logan Hill and Morgan Hill, Caleb Rogers and Jacob Rogers, Nealy Hiers, William Hiers, Emily Kate Hiers, Parker Simpson, Susannah Cleveland, Bristol Parker, Peyton Parker, Abigail Parker, Alexa Parker and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Sardis Baptist Church on Friday, March 4, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Garvey Nichols and Reverend Mickey Corbett will officiate. Burial will follow at Carter Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Carson McLane Funeral Home from 6 -8 p.m. on Thursday evening. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to Lowndes Service Center 1644 E.
