Evelyn Gerrish Tucker

Evelyn Gerrish Tucker, 90, of Valdosta, GA, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010, at South Georgia Medical Center. Formerly of Riverside Avenue, Jacksonville, FL, Mrs. Tucker has made her home with her son and daughter-in-law in Valdosta for the past sixteen years.

She was born December 10, 1919 in Jacksonville, FL, a daughter of the late Arthur Cummer Gerrish and Blanche Hall Richardson Gerrish. She graduated with the Class of 1938 from Landon High School, Jacksonville, and attended F.S.C.W. (Florida State College for Women), now F.S.U. (Florida State University), from 1938 to 1940 and was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, Alpha Nu. Mrs. Tucker had been employed at Prudential Insurance of America for 35 years, retiring in 1978. For many years she was Treasurer of P.E.R.C. (Prudential Employee Retirement Club).

She will be remembered for her music. She played accordion, piano, organ and banjo and many times would entertain with her music wherever she was.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Evelyn (Lynn) Cribb and Max of Jacksonville, FL; one son and daughter-in-law, William (Bill) Martin Tucker, Jr. and Helen of Valdosta, GA; five grandchildren, Stephanie Ogilvie Desilet and husband Andre, Donnovan Glenn Ogilvie, Damon Phillips Ogilvie, Dr. William (Marty) Martin Tucker III, and Keith Owens Tucker and wife Shelby; three great-granddaughters, Simone Olivia Desilet, Drea Louise Desilet and Grayson Steel Tucker; one sister, Willetta Beatrice Powell of Morrow, GA; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Arthur Cummer Gerrish, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, and Robert Richardson Gerrish and Nina of Alamo, GA; four nieces and one nephew. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Tucker was preceded in death by her husband, William Martin Tucker, Sr.; brother-in-law, Charles Powell; and sister-in-law, Olga Gerrish.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Tucker will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at Evergreen Cemetery, Jacksonville, FL.
