Evelyn Dawn Blanton, 99, of Valdosta, died on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at The Orchard. She was born on January 9, 1925, in Kentucky to the late K D Noland and Nannie Mae Brock Noland. She was a member of First Methodist Church of Valdosta but had not been able to attend there as she would have wanted in some years. She was originally a member of the Baconton United Methodist Church in Baconton, Georgia and was very active in the life of the church there. She retired as a Buyer’s assistant with Rike’s Department Store in Dayton, Ohio. Once retired, she enjoyed working at the family business marking merchandise and keeping things tidy. She loved working with the office staff immensely. Mrs. Blanton was known for being an excellent seamstress who could make anything from clothes to curtains and was famous for the quilts she would make for newborn babies. In addition to being an excellent seamstress, she was also gifted in the culinary field where her homemade bread, pickles, and pineapple upside down cake was a hit with everyone.
Mrs. Blanton is survived by her son, Harold Dean Blanton of Clovis, California; her daughter and son-in-law, Ramona Blanton-Boyett and Chip Boyett of Valdosta; her granddaughter and her spouse, Julia and Brian Uptagrafft of Athens; great-grandchildren, Natalie Uptagrafft and Elliot Uptagrafft; her sister, Kathy Clinker of Canyon Country, California, and her nurse and caregiver, Maxine Swilley and her sister Betty Battles who are considered part of the family. Mrs. Blanton was preceded by her husband, Robert Blanton; a stepson and his wife, Warren and Beverly Dixon, and a stepdaughter, Doris Best. Also preceding her in death were her two brothers James Brock Noland and Clarence Mitchel Noland along with her sister Sara Jett Noland Beck.
A graveside service for Evelyn Dawn Blanton will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at the McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. until time to process to the cemetery at the Carson McLane Funeral Home.
