Evelyn Carter Wilkes

September 20, 1913 — December 6, 2008

Evelyn Carter Wilkes, 95, of Valdosta died Saturday, December 6, 2008 at the Langdale Hospice House. She was born in Berrien County on September 20, 1913 to the late Yancey Franklin and Ora Lee Rawlins Carter. Mrs. Wilkes was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Annie Mae Walker Harris Sunday School Class and the United Methodist Women. She attended Weslyan Conservatory in Macon where she served on the Student Council, captain of the soccer team and was voted Most Beautiful in the Freshman Class. Mrs. Wilkes was a volunteer in the Valdosta City Schools and with the USO. She was a past member of the DAR and served as a Candy Striper Gray Ladies at South Georgia Medical Center. She was an avid bridge player and gardener.

Survivors include two daughters and a son in law, Margaret Ann Donodeo of Orange Park, Fla., Teddy and Randy Schwandt of Salt Lake City, Utah, three grandchildren, Jimmy (Kelly) Studstill of Collierville, TN., Suzanne Willoughby of Lakeland, GA., Brad Schwandt of Denver, CO., seven great grandchildren, Madison Studstill, Camden Studstill, Grayson Studstill, Haisten Studstill, Janice Willoughby, Paul Willoughby and Ray Willoughby, one sister, Lucille Carter Leibel of New Caanan, CT., one brother and sister in law, Hanson Rawlins Carter and Beth Carter of Nashville, GA. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edwin Wilkes of Valdosta, one brother, Dr. Y. F. Carter, Jr. of Nashville, GA and two sisters, Margaret Carter Giddens and Clyde Carter Lastinger both of Valdosta.

Graveside services will be held at 11am, Tuedsay, December 9, 2008 at Sunset Hill Cemetery with Rev. Thomas Mason and Rev. B.J. Funk officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 10am until service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Langdale Hospice House, P. O.
