Etheline Turner Levins, 84, of Valdosta, passed away Friday, May 10, 2013, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, after a long illness.
She was born July 22, 1928 in Wendell, NC, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Cornelia Collier Wade. In the early 1970's she had a day care in her home in Waycross. She was a past member of King Memorial Baptist Church, Atkinson. For many years she was a Foster Parent, having over twenty-eight foster children in her care while living in Brantley County, and became a M.A.P.P. trainer for Brantley County. After moving to Valdosta in 2007 she became a volunteer at the Heritage House Nursing Home. She enjoyed working with children and doing crafts.
She is survived by two daughters, Sylvia Engel O'Berry, and Linda Engel Stikkel and husband Fred, all of Valdosta; two grandchildren, Brian Bosley of Brunswick, and Julia B. Upptagrafft and husband Brian of Eugene, OR; six great-grandchildren, Taylor Bosley of Brunswick, Katlin, Logan and Lindsey Bosley of Brunswick; Natalie C. and Elliot C. Upptagrafft of Eugene, OR. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Charles E. Engel, David Turner and James Levins; a grandson, Stephen T. O'Berry; she was the youngest of twelve children and is predeceased by all of her siblings.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the nurses and staff of Grace Hospice for the care they gave to Mrs. Levins and her family.
A Memorial Service for Mrs. Etheline Turner Levins will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2013, at New Harvest United Methodist Church, with Rev. Larry Houser officiating. A private interment will take place at a later date at Sunset Hill Cemetery. In lieu flowers, please consider a memorial donation to the Pregnancy Support Center.
