Ernie Blanton, Sr., 83 of Valdosta, GA died on Thursday, November 11, 2004 at South Georgia Medical Center after a short illness. Born on March 14, 1921 at Blanton Station in Lowndes Co., he was the son of the late Clance Homer and Anabel Rewis Blanton. Mr. Blanton served during World War II and the Korean Conflict with the United States Army. He was released from the Army with the rank of Captain of Artillery. He was a member of West End Presbyterian Church where he served as Elder, Sunday School teacher and Clerk of Session. He was a member of the local Masonic lodges, the Valdosta Shrine Club, the Hasan Temple and was associated with VICCO and Georgia Chemical Co.
Survivors are his wife, Eloise P. Blanton of Valdosta, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Mary Lou DeLoach of Evanwood, NM, Beth and Rick Vickers of Quitman, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, David and Jackie Blanton of Gray, GA, Jake and Priscilla Blanton of Lake Park, GA, Dan and Tonya Tyson of Leesburg, GA, Mike and Jenny Blanton of Marietta, GA; grandchildren, Jimmy Blanton, Chris Blanton, Brandon Blanton, Emily Tyson, Gabrielle Tyson, Ashlyn Tyson, Robbie DeLoach III, Melissa D. Isenhour, David M. Blanton, Christina Vickers, Michael Blanton, Jr., Amanda Blanton; six great grandchildren, and one sister, Odel Blanton Smith of Valdosta, GA. He was preceded in death by a brother, C. (Jack) Blanton and a sister, Vera Blanton Nickell.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 14, 2004 in the Chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Reverend John Akers officiating. Burial will follow at McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 6 until 8 p.m. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to West End Presbyterian Church.
