Emory Merle Parrish

October 23, 1932 — November 10, 2009

Emory M. Parrish, 77, of Valdosta, died Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at South Georgia Medical Center. He was born on October 23, 1932 in Cook County, GA to the late Arlie G. and Carrie H. Parrish. Mr. Parrish was a member of Greenwood Baptist Church and was a long time active deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a lay speaker for many southern Baptist churches in our community and involved in mission work in Plymouth, Indiana. Mr. Parrish served in the United States Navy from 1951 – 1955 during the Korean Conflict. Many years before his retirement he was a general building contractor building houses in Lowndes, Brooks and Thomas counties. He graduated from Cook County High School in Adel and Abraham Baldwin College in Tifton.

Mr. Parrish is survived by his wife of fifty five years, Beverly A. Parrish of Valdosta, one daughter and son in law, Cheryl and Mike Copeland of Appleton, Wisconsin, two brothers and sisters in law, Lamar and Jody Parrish of Valdosta and Harold and Elsie Parrish of Sanford, FL, a very dear friend, Don Ganas of Valdosta.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 12, 2009 at eleven a. m. in the chapel of the Carson McLane Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Bass, Dr. Clyde Stokes and Pastor Brian Whitson officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from six until eight p. m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
