Emmette Bryant, Sr., 90, of Valdosta, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2014.
Born August 13, 1924, in Bolivia, NC, a son of the late George Tupper Bryant and Maggie Moody Bryant, he had lived most of his life in North Carolina. Mr. Bryant honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Army, and was a decorated Korean War Veteran. He was a member of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, Bolivia, NC, and had lived a full and eventful life. Mr. Bryant moved to Valdosta to be closer to family.
He is survived by three daughters and three sons, Catherine Lawson and husband Ernest of New Jersey, U.S. Navy Master Chief (E-9, Retired) Fredrick E. Bryant and wife Pansy of Perry, U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. (E-8, Retired) Emmett Bryant, Jr. and wife Sandra of Valdosta, Cynthia Smith of Valdosta, U.S. Army CWO5 Toney Bryant of Fort Bragg, NC, and Jacqueline Green (U.S. Air Force, Persian Gulf Veteran) of St. Petersburg, FL; sixteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Curtis Bryant and wife Lillian of Greensboro, NC; two sisters, Maggie Sebastian and husband Donald of Groton, CT, and Rhoda Bryant of Mystic, CT; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Bryant; and son, George Bryant.
The Funeral Service for Mr. Bryant will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 19, 2014, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. Carlton Bryant officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Northwood Cemetery, Southport, NC. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, prior to the funeral.
