Elvalena Allbritton Chaney

Elvalena Allbritton Chaney, 81, of Valdosta died Tuesday, November 1, 2016, after a very short illness, three weeks after her beloved husband Jimmy's death, on October 12, 2016. She was born in Lowndes County on November 15, 1934 to the late Lee Alexander and Sally Earnest Allbritton. She worked alongside her husband for 66 years. They founded and operated Dependable Sanitation Service for twenty eight years and owned and operated Handy Dan Ice for thirty years. Mrs. Chaney enjoyed traveling in their motor home as she chauffeured Jimmy all over North America. She had a very strong work ethic and was a loving mother. Mrs. Chaney was a member of the New Harvest United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters and a son in law, Peggy & Barry Godfrey, and Nancy Elaine Chaney all of Valdosta; her grandchildren, Heather Elaine (Luke) McGee of Valdosta, Michael David (Diane) Chaney of Atlanta, Christopher Shawn Chaney of Columbus, OH; great grandchild, Findlay McGee of Valdosta; her sister, Elouise Harman of College Park, GA; two brothers and sisters in law, Donnie and Joann Allbritton, Bobby and Geri Allbritton all of Valdosta; and special caregivers, Melissa Wiseman and Louise Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband, James L. (Jimmy) Chaney, a son, James David Chaney and a brother, Willie Allbritton.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Friday, November 4, 2016 in the chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home with Rev. Larry Hauser and Rev. Tyler Barrett officiating. Burial will follow in McLane Riverview Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends on Thursday from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
